In 2003, the Butler County Chamber began recognizing local organizations that impact the community through a cooperative project or initiative, with the presentation of the Community Champion Award. This year’s Community Champion Award luncheon is sponsored by NexTier Bank, C. W. Howard Insurance Agency, Kenmac Rental & Sales and Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau.
The Board of Directors and Past President’s Advisory Council of the Butler County Chamber are pleased to honor The Arc of Butler County as the 17th Butler County Chamber of Commerce Community Champion Award recipient. The Arc of Butler County was started by a grass roots initiative that began with concerned families and community leaders initiating services and supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Because of these beginnings, The Arc of Butler County has a rich history of advocacy for adults and right-to-education for preschool and public school-aged children. The Arc of Butler County opened one of the first community residences for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Western Pennsylvania and continues to provide this service through its Community Living Arrangement Program.
