The Butler County Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the winner and runner-up of the Collegiate Concerto Competition. Elary Mede, Vocalist (Soprano) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has been unanimously selected as the winner of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra’s Collegiate Concerto Competition. On Sunday, January 27, 2019 the Butler County Symphony Orchestra hosted the Collegiate Concerto Competition at Slippery Rock University in Swope Music Hall. There were 16 participants representing Slippery Rock University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Westminster College, Grove City College and Duquesne University.
Judges for the event were Tanya Satteson (BCSO Concertmaster), Jeff Kroner (BSHS Band Director), Christie Kecskemethy (BCSO Principal II Violinist) and Bryan Helsel (BSHS Choir Director). Two finalists (Elary Mede, Vocalist, of IUP and Frances Orteza, Flute, of SRU) were identified by the judges and the event culminated with a final performance by both musicians to select the winner.
Ms. Mede will perform her three selections with the Butler County Symphony Orchestra at the April 14th, 2019 concert “Fire & Water.” Vocal Selections will include “Summertime” from Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess, “Dove sono i bei momenti” from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and “V’adoro, Pupille” from Handel’s Julius Caesar.
